Learn about the 3d applications and file types that work with Digital Spaces

Updated over 10 months ago

A Digital Space is created by combining rendered 360 panorama images with your 3D model. To create the necessary 360 panorama images, you can use any render engine that supports (VR 360) equirectangular images.

Your model can be exported as either .usd, .dae, or .fbx to be used with our platform. To ensure that your model is compatible with Digital Spaces, it's important to include cameras/views along with your geometry. You do not need to export materials or lights.

We support a variety of 3D applications and render engines, including some of the most well-known in the industry. Whether you're using SketchUp, 3ds Max, Rhino, or any other popular software, our platform is designed to seamlessly integrate with your workflow.

File types that we support

  • USD (.usd):

    • (ASCII Only)

    • This is a file format that allows for the exchange of 3D scenes between different software applications. It's good for complex projects with a lot of data.

  • COLLADA (.dae):

    • This is a file format that lets you exchange 3D assets between different software applications. It's commonly used for game development, virtual reality, and interactive applications.

  • FBX (.fbx):

    • (Binary Only)

    • This is a file format that's used for the exchange of 3D data between different software applications, especially in the entertainment industry. It supports a range of features including animation, textures, and lighting.

    • FBX Versions we accept

      • 7.1 (FBX 2011)

      • 7.2 (FBX 2012)

      • 7.3 (FBX 2013)

      • 7.4 (FBX 2014)

      • 7.5 (FBX 2016.1.2)

Known 3D applications that we support

  • 3ds Max: A powerful 3D modeling and rendering software used in architecture, design, and gaming.

  • SketchUp: A popular, easy-to-learn 3D modeling software used for architecture and interior design.

  • Blender: A free and open-source 3D creation software for animations, visual effects, and interactive 3D.

  • Cinema 4D: A professional 3D software used in film, TV, and advertising.

  • form-Z: A 3D modeling software used in architecture, industrial, and product design.

  • Rhino: A 3D modeling software used in architecture, industrial, and jewelry design.

  • Revit: A building information modeling software used by architects, engineers, and construction professionals.

Known render engines we support

  • V-Ray: A powerful and widely-used rendering engine that supports 360 rendering for both still images and animations.

  • Arnold: A high-quality rendering engine used in film, TV, and advertising that supports 360 rendering.

  • Blender Cycles: The built-in rendering engine for Blender that supports 360 rendering and is open source.

  • Octane Render: A fast and efficient GPU-based rendering engine that supports 360 rendering.

  • Corona Renderer: A user-friendly rendering engine that supports 360 rendering and is popular for architectural visualization.

  • Redshift: A GPU-accelerated rendering engine that supports 360 rendering and is used in film, TV, and advertising.

  • Enscape: A real-time rendering plugin for 3D modeling software such as Revit, SketchUp, and Rhino, that allows you to create 360-degree panoramas and VR experiences directly from your 3D model.

  • Lumion: A popular architectural visualization software that enables you to create 360-degree renders and virtual reality experiences, with a user-friendly interface and real-time rendering capabilities.

3D applications that we do NOT support

  • Twinmotion: A real-time visualization tool for architects and designers, it offers a simple and intuitive interface for creating 360-degree panoramas and VR experiences directly from your 3D model.

Unfortunately, Twinmotion does not allow us to gather camera information or export the 3D model. For that reason, we are unable to support Twinmotion at this time.
