Accepted file types from 3ds Max
Before you export
Have all cameras visible
Only have the geometry that you want to export displayed in the viewport
If you have proxied items, try turning the mesh display types to "box" for smaller items
Hide any geometry far from the camera or outside windows
USD
Recommended for 3ds Max 2022 and newer
USD exporting is new to 3ds Max. Instructions on how to install the USD Exporter for 3ds Max 2022+ are below.
Step 1: Navigate to File->Export->Export...
Enter a file name, a save location, and export as...
Universal Scene Description (*usd, *usdz, *usda, *usdc)
Step 2: Adjust export settings
Format set to ASCII, Geometry and Cameras turned on.
WARNING: Ignoring this step will cause your scene to fail.
COLLADA
Step 1: Navigate to File->Export->Export...
Enter a file name, a save location, and export as Autodesk Collada (*.dae)
Step 2: Adjust export settings
Be sure to have Cameras checked.
You can turn off TurboSmooth.
Click OK when you are ready to export.
WARNING: Ignoring this step will cause your scene to fail.
FBX
Step 1: Navigate to File->Export->Export...
Enter a file name, a save location, and export as Autodesk (*.fbx)
Step 2: Adjust export settings
Be sure to have Cameras checked.
You can turn off TurboSmooth.
Click OK when you are ready to export.
