Prioritize the user experience above all else

At digitalspaces.io, we're all about allowing you to tell your story in the most epic way possible. By carefully selecting the placement of your viewpoints, you can create an experience that fully immerses your audience and showcases your design in the best possible light.

Below we have some tips and tricks, best practices, and advice on setting cameras and views for your Digital Space.

Cameras should not look up or down

Cameras must be parallel to the ground with no rotation in the y-axis. Be sure to eliminate all y-axis rotation in your cameras BEFORE you render 🤗!

A Camera Height of 4'-6" (140cm) is Recommended for Eye-Level Viewing

We have found that the best height to position a camera (for eye-level viewing) is around 4'-6" (~140cm). This height is lower than the average eye level, but the viewing experience is much more immersive when you're not looking down at furniture.

While 4'-6" (~140cm) is what we recommend, you can get super creative with your camera placement! Want to see what the world looks like from a dog's perspective? Or how about a bird's-eye view of your project? You can place and render cameras from any height to give unlimited perspectives.

Users should not feel stuck in one area without the ability to explore their surroundings.

When creating your experiences, keep in mind the importance of connected layouts that allow for seamless exploration. By providing multiple escapes and clear paths to navigate, you can ensure that your audience is fully immersed and engaged.

In this example, cameras are networked together by a grid pattern, ensuring they are connected to more than one. This allows users to have multiple options for exploring the scene.

Placing views at door thresholds makes traveling into rooms a natural and easy experience.

In this example, we place views at door thresholds, creating an intersection where viewers can decide where to move next. This also allows viewers a great overview of both the room they came from and the one they are entering.

Place viewpoints in areas where people would naturally stand (or sit), as well as in locations that offer great photo opportunities.

Places where people naturally would stand are:

  • Reception desks

  • Counters & Sinks

  • Observation platforms

  • Mezzanines

  • Gateways

Also consider unique locations such as:

  • Benches

  • Sofas/Beds

  • Beneath trees

  • Inside pools

For large rooms, feel free to place views in the center of the room and in room corners. This provides great photo opportunities for users and allows them to get a wide-angle perspective.

Try to provide a one-of-a-kind perspective that truly sets your experience apart!

We hope you can tell your story in the most compelling way possible with Digital Spaces.
